Level Laser therapy is the use of Light Emitting diodes and lasers of a particular wavelength and frequency to induce a cascade of intracellular and extracellular and physiological events of the cells of the body.
The light is absorbed by the cells which in turn reduces the stress on the cell from the injury allowing the production of energy. This also reduces the production of free radicals and inflammation.
Low Level Laser Therapy increases the activity of calcium ions, the secretion of growth factors and the activation of enzymes. This has been seen in cells responsible for tissue regeneration and the auto-immune response.
LLLT when used in a particular way can induce an analgesic effect. High power density lasers can inhibit energy production rather than stimulate the cells. This leads to a local nerve block (analgesia) and reduced central sensitisation.
These effects have been demonstrated and measured in over 3000 laboratory studies. Over 300 clinical trials have taken place and over 30 papers written in 2012 alone. LLLT is safe for everyone with only a few exceptions. It can be used on acute as well as chronic injuries, reducing the healing time on fractures, post-operative wounds, musculoskeletal conditions where there is pain and inflammation.
There is an improved speed and quality of the regeneration to skin, muscle, tendon, ligament, bone and nerves.
Resolution of inflammation at least equal to NASIDS (e.g. Ibuprofen) but without the side effects.
Lymph vessels move more fluid. Muscle fatigue is reduced.

The Treatment
Each session is totally painless and there are no side effects. Most people will experience benefit immediately but depending on the condition, the benefits may take longer.
As part of the process a complete history of the presenting problem will be taken prior to treatment, and a treatment plan will be outlined to you.

Low Level Laser therapy has been shown to have good results with pain & inflammation and there are emerging studies on it`s effectiveness with AMD, PTSD, depression, weight loss, stroke recovery and neuropathy. (e.g. Trigeminal Neuralgia, post surgical pain, chronic pain syndrome)

LLLT has been used for many years on sports injuries, arthritic joints, neuropathic pain syndromes, back and neck pain. Over 200 randomised clinical trials have been published on LLLT, half of which are on pain.

Customers include British and US military, Premier Division soccer teams, Olympic teams, Formula 1, rugby and cricket team therapists as well as specialist pain clinics in the UK and USA.

In the last 4 years six systematic reviews have found in favour of LLLT

  •     BMJ sports medicine journal, systematic review of surgical and conservative interventions for frozen shoulder found "strong evidence" for LLLT. (2010)
  •     The International Association for the Study of Pain (Global Task force on musculoskeletal pain) found "strong evidence" for Low Level Laser Therapy on myofascial pain syndrome. (2010)
  •     The BMJ clinical evidence recommendations for tennis elbow 2011 now include LLLT
  •     American Physical Therapy Association guidelines recommend LLLT for Achilles tendonitis. (2010)
  •     Lancet systematic review: "LLLT reduces pain immediately after treatment in acute neck pain and up to 22 weeks after completion of treatment in patients with chronic neck pain". (2009)
  •     World Health Organisation (Bone and Joint Task Force) for neck pain Low Level Laser Therapy "more effective than no treatment, sham, or alternative interventions" (2008)

In August 2010 The Lancet reported that the systematic review of LLLT for neck pain was in their top 20 most downloaded papers for 2010.

This treatment has been shown to be effective in trials at this window of light wavelengths and laser power.
